My dad studied in Lima, Peru and came to the United States of America to practice medicine; my mother served as a registered nurse in the U.S. Army Reserve. Both have taught me the lesson of working hard and making a positive difference in my community. I have had an interest in the health field growing up, being born and raised in the state of West Virginia known for their poor health care. My small, rural town called Bluefield, the town that I call home, is part of a healthcare system in Southwest Virginia. My goal growing up was to make a difference in my community and give back to the people in need.

I want to help students of all ages and abilities find love and motivation in school, just like I did from amazing teachers when I was younger. I have experience with working with children between the ages of six and twelve years old from coaching gymnastics, and I also tutored high school freshman in pre-algebra last year.

I am Joseph and am originally from LaGrange, Georgia. I received my undergraduate degree in History at the University of Georgia, where I was enrolled in the Honors Program. While at Georgia, I spent a semester abroad at Oxford University in England. I went on to study Law at the University of Mississippi, where I earned a JD in 2012.My love for history as well as my on-campus involvement during college and during law school have given me the opportunity to teach one-on-one in nontraditional settings. In my role as an interpretive volunteer at the Atlanta History Center, I have enjoyed being able to answer visitors' questions about what life was like during earlier eras. Likewise, as a new member educator for my college fraternity, I worked closely with a pledge class as they learned the history, traditions, and expectations of our organization.I hope to impart my enthusiasm for learning to your son or daughter in our tutoring sessions. I will work to break down difficult areas into manageable blocks, building confidence and knowledge that together will lead to success. And for College it was tutoring students in a variety of majors.Washington State University provided a Master's in teaching adults. Those teaching experiences have been the best of all worlds and the worst.The best experience for a teacher or tutor is being granted the opportunity to help a person grow in his/her skills. Observing the growth in confidence cannot be beat as a best experience for any tutor.The worst experience for a tutor or teacher is watching a student struggle, but refuse help. I have been assisting and teaching students since my teaching assistant days back in 6th grade. From there, I went to Youngstown State University in Northeast Ohio and obtained my teaching degree in grades 4-9 math, social studies, and reading.I have taught in the classroom (online and in person) 5 years to date with my degree and several more before I graduated, ranging from Kindergarten all the way up to 9th. Nothing can ever replace the the memories of each and every student that has walked through my door. I truly believe every student can learn, given a welcoming environment that allows them to try new things, fail at others, and explore the world around them.Currently, I am teaching 8th grade Algebra and general mathematics as well as a Life Skills Math course in a district in Ohio. I love the small town feel, and it's a new challenge everyday.I love to teach math. Something about arriving at the right answer makes me feel complete after seeing all my hard work scribbled down on a board. Social studies is another passion of mine. We wouldn't be where we are today without where we've been and what we have learned from it.
