Session Summaries by Physiology Tutors

Physiology Tutoring review by Christine in Youngstown, OH
We went over more examples of Gauss' law - we looked specifically at two conducting spheres (shells) in concentric circles separated by a gap, and a solid conducting sphere inside of (and touching) an insulating sphere with a uniform charge density. The student is doing very well with manipulating Gauss' law, and understanding how charges separate on a conductor. We spent a lot of time analyzing the equations for the electric field at boundaries to determine if they "simplify" to the correct values (either the electric field away from a point or zero for no net charge).

We covered glycolysis, Krebs cycle, pyruvate dehydrogenase, and the electron transport chain. We also discussed the endosymbiotic theory and the importance of that theory. We briefly discussed mitosis and meiosis. The student has a great attitude and is eager to learn. We worked on actually understanding concepts and using visual diagrams.

Today was an excellent session with the student. We covered the first half of her homework assignment on electron orbitals, electron configuration, atomic radius, and ionization energy. The assignment isn't due until Thursday, so we are going to save the remaining problems for our next session.

We went over titrations, buffers, reaction quotients, and solubility constants before moving on to working through the student's drill questions. He did very well with his problem solving skills and grasped everything super quickly and was able to apply it. He will review strong acids and bases before we meet tomorrow.

Tonight, we worked on an assortment of sample problems and homework questions for the student's physics class, related to (but not limited to) Coulomb's law, Gauss' law, capacitors and capacitance, parallel and series circuits, and Kirchhoff's rules. I think we'll need a few more sessions before we can get fully caught up.
