I have a positive and patient way of getting through to students. Science was my favorite subject matter in college and I like to break down difficult information into terms that are easier to understand and follow. For example, I like to break down scientific terms by their roots. In doing so, my students not only remember what the terms mean for that class but can also apply that knowledge in future class work. I also believe in using reinforcement techniques such as repetition, writing, and regular revision/quizzing of the subject matter so that the information not only stays fresh, but is also easier to build on that information further. As I graduated with an honors bachelor's degree in Biology, I started working at my university as an academic tutor. Based on the performance of my students, I was further promoted to the "Lead Science Tutor" position where I could share teaching techniques and train incoming tutors as well. I was the president of Society for Neuroscience and organized many community education outreach events. As an academic tutor, I am able to use my patient, motivating, and goal-oriented nature to help my students not only do well in one course, but also improve their study habits altogether and achieve long term goals.

I am a recent graduate of Manhattanville College with a degree in Biology. During my time at Manhattanville, I minored in Music, it was a way for me to keep my love of music alive while working toward the career I desired. While at Manhattanville, I held positions in White Plains, NY in tutoring students of various grade levels in many subjects. On a typical day I tutored 3-5 students in the subjects of Math, English, and various areas of Science. With my degree, and my experience in tutoring science, I am most comfortable tutoring the various areas of science: Biology, Chemistry, Microbiology, Anatomy & Physiology, Astronomy, and Physics. I also enjoy tutoring in English and Economics, as I took a particular interest in them during college. I like to tutor in a building style, I get the student to recall the basics of a subject, and to work through a problem by deconstructing the it and working out the areas that are easy for them, then offering assistance to get them on the right track to the answer. Outside of tutoring and college I enjoy reading, mainly in the genre of science-fiction, cooking almost everything that can be thought of, and I also enjoy play video games in what free time I have.

As a current medical student with years of high-level coursework in various subjects under my belt, I have learned to adapt and change my learning style multiple times throughout high school, college, and medical school. As a soon-to-be doctor, one of the most important things I can do with my patients is to listen to them, their needs, and where they are coming from. This ability to listen is crucial also for tutoring and understanding a child's academic needs. In working with patients, I also regularly break down tough scientific concepts into every-day language that they can relate to. This is another very important skill to have when working with students who may be struggling to understand difficult technical concepts. I am confident that my years of academic experience will serve well in helping your child succeed in any subject area they may need help in.

I am a very positive, friendly person who always has a smile on her face. I have been a teacher/tutor for ten years. I can work with students from many backgrounds and cultures and students with disabilities.Previously, I worked for ten years as a Biologist for the USDA. I have also worked as a librarian's assistant, and laboratory assistant. So, I bring with me experience from the real world, and merge it with my knowledge of Science, language, literacy and teaching techniques, to give you the complete package.I am the mother of two teenage boys and a seven year old daughter. So, I know about developmental stages, and have developed a tremendous amount of patience.I identify the student's learning style, strengths and weaknesses and take it from there. I am very encouraging, and use demos, experiments, interactive websites and appropriate textbooks to make learning fun. I can't wait to hear from you to start working together towards achieving: the solid knowledge, learning techniques and confidence that you or your child need to succeed!

I have just received my BS degree in Biological Science at California State University, Fullerton. While I was there, I worked as a tutor for chemistry, biology, and physics. During my experience as a tutor, I learned how to address my student's needs to quickly adjust my explanation so that my student would understand. To improve myself, I attended work shops to learn more about tutoring and logged my progress in my journal. I still have things to learn, but that is what makes tutoring so enjoyable. Each session is different from one another and has its own unique challenges so that I can continue to learn and be a good tutor. Aside from my on-campus tutoring, I also tutored high school students in chemistry and physics. There are differences between high school and college students, but one thing I do find in common is that when we solve a problem together, we both get this feeling of accomplishment.Aside from tutoring, I enjoy hiking, playing tennis, and biking. Those are my latest hobbies at the moment. Other things I have done are football, rugby, wrestling, and basketball. On my lazier days, I will go play video games or rent a movie and enjoy a good laugh. Eating is always another enjoyable choice as well.

I offer focused tutoring to prepare for standardized or in-class exams.I received my MD from the University of Maryland in 2011. Toward the end of medical school I became involved in helping premedical students prepare for the MCAT exam (I scored 98th percentile on this exam in 2007 and have since obtained higher scores on diagnostics). After medical school I completed my internship at Northwestern University and then left the clinical setting to join an MCAT content development company I founded in 2011. Over the past year, I have coached several students on MCAT preparation. I find these relationships valuable because they help me learn students learn, which helps me to write higher-yield MCAT-style questions. The MCAT contains General Chemistry/ Physics, Verbal Reasoning, and Biology/ Organic Chemistry/ Physiology/ Genetics/ Molecular Biology/ Biochemistry sections, and I feel comfortable tutoring in all these areas. The approach I will help you to implement has 3 parts: (1) Where am I now? (2) Where to I want to go? (3) How am I going to get there? To answer the first question, we'll need your most recent diagnostic test scores and a full summary of your classes/ coursework so far. The second question will be determined by you. The third question I will help you to figure out based on the time you have available to prepare. If necessary, we'll choose additional diagnostics to find your weaknesses. Then, we'll select content materials and practice problems (broken down by week) to target your weaknesses specifically.I look forward to working with you!

To start, I am a Korean-American originally from a small suburb near Los Angeles, California. My educational history includes a major in General Biology and minor in Psychology from the University of California, San Diego, as well as a Doctor of Physical Therapy Degree from Boston University. My educational interests include anatomy and physiology, kinesiology, neurobiology/psychology, algebra, and child and adolescent psychology. My personal interests vary from cooking to hiking to watching and playing just about every sport possible.I have had many years of tutoring experience in both a class and 1-on-1 setting. My longest experience involved tutoring a group of 10-12 7th and 8th grade students; which included but was not limited to completing schoolwork, preparing for STAR testing, and providing additional quizzes and questions when necessary. I have also had several years of part-time tutoring jobs for children in 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 6th grade, with additional experience in 1-on-1 tutoring with 2 SAT students. My experience with teaching stems from not just an instructor's perspective, but also as a student; attending after school tutoring from the age of 13 to 17 years old. I believe this is one of the reasons I can connect to students so easily, because I understand the difficulties with learning. My tutoring sessions involve a very interactive approach on the part of the student with a reward based approach for their efforts. This is my way of promoting student interest in the topics of study, to prevent monotony and boredom with school work. I like to try to incorporate games into my tutoring sessions that may include topics they have learned; whether it's a memory card game, jeopardy, or a simple game of hangman. As your tutor, I will do my best to not only help your student excel at school, but also find fun in learning.

I am an MS graduate at the University of South Florida, in the field of ecology and Evolution, with my bachelors from the University of Florida in general biology with a chemistry minor.Since graduating from UF, I planned to either go to medical school, or to seek a position as a professor teaching at a reputable college. I chose the latter; though the pay is less, I find too much joy in both research and teaching to not pursue those as a career at the highest level.Throughout my life, I have found that I am very skilled at teaching both my colleagues and those younger than me. Around my middle school years, I found I have a knack for explaining abstract and difficult-to-understand topics. At which point, I began tutoring on a volunteer basis which later developed into a private tutoring business. I normally teach college courses as a Teaching Assistant at the University of South Florida Tampa campus, while I further my work on my dissertation (centered on genetics).I am comfortable with teaching mathematics through Calculus I (or whatever the equivalent.) I am extremely competent with statistics, as it comprises an integral part of both my TA work and research. I also excel in all areas of academic writing. I am most suited to test prep tutoring sessions: I have invariably excelled at all standardized tests. I am also familiar with ACT and SAT formats, and the particular and differing strategies that maximize the likelihood of high scores for each.

I believe that science should be made fun and relevant. In my teachings I use as many real life examples as possible. I do not emphasize memorization, but rather an understanding of the process and the relationships that exist. If one tries to learn science by memorization, there is simply too much information. However, if one understands the relationships that exist between factors, then one can apply a consistent process to solve the problem.I believe that all students want to know their teacher/tutor is in it with them. I strive to establish a personal connection with my students. That means I let them get to know me as a person to some degree and not just as a teacher. Once this connection is established, learning takes place at a faster pace.I am willing to do whatever it takes to help a student advance as long as the student is willing to put the effort in themself. I believe that education must be self-owned - that students have to claim their right to an education by demanding to be challenged and working to meet that challenge.

I received both my graduate and undergraduate degrees from the University of Pittsburgh. I have an M.B.A and Bachelor of Science Degree in Medical Technology. I am also a Certified Medical Assistant (CMA AAMA) and CPR/AED/First Aid instructor. For over fifteen years I have instructed students in subjects to include medical terminology, anatomy and physiology, clinical and administrative procedures and pharmacology. I was a part of a task force that created test questions for the Certified Medical Assisting examination so I am familiar with the formatting used on standardized tests. During my tenure in a "big city" proprietary school I put my M.B.A. to use teaching courses in economics, sociology, and business communications. The students I have instructed ranged from those that were home schooled, GED recipients, attendees of traditional brick and mortar schools, and non-traditional adult students. Before this I worked at a top 10 hospital in the pathology department. I assisted with the processing of anatomical and surgical specimens. When I say anatomical specimens, I mean autopsies. Because of this, I have an extensive and firsthand knowledge of anatomy.I was recently asked to put my teaching philosophy into words and this is what I wrote:"No should ever leave my classroom feeling that they didn't learn anything, their time was wasted, or they didn't get their money's worth. In order to accomplish this, I will be organized, prepared and demonstrate competence in the subjects I teach, every day. To help students develop I will adapt lesson plans to their different learning styles and use lecture, audiovisual, and hands-on demonstrations to meet each student' needs."When I am not teaching I like to watch NCIS, Forensic Files, and Doctor Who (although I miss David Tennant and Matt Smith). I am waiting for The Walking Dead to return so my sons and I can take turns trying to scare each other when we walk the dog after watching an episode. Fires in the backyard and family game night round out my extracurricular activities.
