My goal in life is to know something about everything. I am highly capable in all sciences and I find ways to have fun with it too!

I'm a recent PhD graduate in Bioengineering in the Boston area. My thesis involved nanoparticles and bacterial infections, but as a biomedical engineer I've had training in circuits, mechanics, some programming, chemistry and biology. Tutoring for me is a collaborative effort, following a problem-based learning with questions that will lead the student towards the answer they're looking for while providing a well-rounded understanding of why and how that answer works.

I am a graduate of the University of Richmond. I received a Bachelor of Science in Biology, with a concentration in pre-health studies. I will use my degree to apply to dental school in the near future. I worked as a tutor in the Academic Skills Center at the University of Richmond. I tutored Science and Mathematics to students, working directly with professors to ensure the consistency of the tutored material. I tutor a broad range of mathematics and science courses. However, I am most passionate about Biology. I believe that every student interested in science should know the basics of the complex biological systems and how they function. Many students lose their interest in science because of the lack of understanding of basic concepts. I think it is my responsibility to help them grow their interest in science by explaining those concepts. I believe in the importance of enjoying what you do, including teaching and learning. I have found that keeping a fun teaching environment is very important for learning. In my free time, I enjoy volunteering, reading, fitness, soccer, rugby, and drumming.

My background is in international health and research. I currently work at a non-profit in New York City and I believe the best way to demonstrate your command over a subject is to be able to successfully communicate and teach that information to someone else. My hobbies and interests include global public health, research, traveling to different countries, running long distances, baking, and spending time with family.

I am originally from the Northern suburbs of Chicago, and have lived all over the US and Europe while working in the pharmaceutical industry. I have taught business classes at the post secondary level in the UK, and have also tutored a wide variety of subjects to students at various skill levels back here in Chicago.I truly enjoy helping students reach their goals and maintain their motivation toward success, and I believe that the best tutoring experience begins with the tutor properly determining the needs and goals of the student.I look forward to working with you!

I tutored high school students in biology and have been a mentor for high school and college students doing laboratory work assisting them with experimental protocols, writing papers and putting together presentations. I am currently working in a research lab at UTHealth and am excited to get back into tutoring. I want to help students succeed academically and am up for the challenge. Plus, it's a gratifying experience that will refine my knowledge on the subject.

I manage programs across a spectrum of needs including scientific promotion, research program design and implementation, strategic planning, and financial tracking.I have a variety of scientific interests, which is why I decided to pursue a PhD in epidemiology. I have studied a number of disorders including smooth muscle cell proliferation in heart disease, DNA repair in ataxia telangiectasia, second messenger signalling in pancreatic cancer, and protein folding in hereditary pancreatitis. I am interested in the application of large data set information to appropriately inform clinical decisions and health/environmental policies. Biostatistical ethics and reproducible data are, therefore, important areas of research to me. I am also interested in cost-efficient ways to improve health outcomes, such as diet and stress.I love teaching and explaining ideas--seeing the change on a person's face when they finally 'get' a concept. I especially enjoying teaching scientific writing (including grant writing), basic biostatistics, and biomedical and statistical ethics.My passion for writing includes communicating scientific concepts to the general public, and listening to people in order to understand what they want to know. I have learned, through my work with Dr. Erin Haynes, to also listen to communities, and to value the expertise that they bring to me.Specialties: Some people are creative, some people can spin, and some people know science, but few can combine all three. I make grants better. I bring seventeen years of benchwork, including molecular biology and small animal surgery, as part of my experiential package. Expert in experimental design, career development programs, and some expertise in the design and analysis of human research studies.

I am a teacher with a passion for educating the next generation in the biological sciences. I have extensive experience in both biology and education, and want to use those experiences to present fundamental and applicable knowledge to my students. My eight years of teaching experience combined with my eleven years of biology research experience in both field and laboratory settings uniquely qualify me with the ability to present a greater depth and breadth of knowledge. My career goal is to continue to develop my personal understanding in the biological sciences and enable my students to think critically on their own.
