In the past, I have had great experience working as an English tutor. I did one-on-one English tutoring with K-12 Chinese students and also taught classes of small sizes for four years. The subjects were mainly English reading and speaking. Also, I have taught English with college students for nine years and instructed them pass national English tests, TOEFL, and IELTS for two and a half years. In 2013-2014, I was accepted by a Fulbright program and taught Chinese at Truman State University. The content of my teaching was Chinese writing, grammar, speaking, and reading. All through these years, I really love working with my students. I have great patience and enthusiasm to motivate them in learning languages. I feel great joy and accomplished when I see my students make progress and achieve their goals with my help. As for teaching, I am always punctual and plan lessons carefully beforehand. Besides, I am very flexible in terms of adjusting my teaching methods to work with different students.

I was born in Shanghai, China and stayed in Shanghai through high school before I attended Carleton College, where I received my Bachelor of Arts in Economics and a minor in Cross-Cultural Studies. I am a native Chinese Mandarin speaker. During my 4 years at Carleton College, I worked as a teaching assistant with the Chinese Language Department. I tutored students on a one-on-one basis to help them improve their spoken and written Chinese language abilities. My way of teaching is extremely flexible, catering to the student’s need. If you come visit my sessions, you will find very interactive dialogues accompanied by laughter and a relaxing environment, yet very learning conducive. I used various methods and media to assist learning such as tapes, and short videos, etc. What I find the students appreciate the most is the cultural and history background I am able to bring into the tutor sessions to make learning more fun and meaningful. In addition, I also have strong interest and deep knowledge in Mathematics, such as Algebra and Geometry. In my spare time, I enjoy reading, travelling and photography.

I am a current undergraduate student at Johns Hopkins University, double majoring in Computer Science and Applied Mathematics and Statistics. I have tutored students from grades 3-8 in Math and English, focusing on grasping new concepts through working through practice problems. Since I have taken the SAT and various AP tests within the past 5 years, I have recent applicable experience to share to help students succeed on these exams. I mainly tutor math and computer science, with focus on SAT Math, Algebra, Calculus, Python, and C++.I love helping students learn and seeing their eyes light up as they grasp new concepts. I enjoy using visual or real life examples to explain new concepts, especially for younger students. I believe doing practice problems is one of the most effective ways to learn as it allows students to figure out exactly which aspects of new concepts they might be struggling with so I can best help them.In addition to being a college student, I also enjoy baking, cooking, playing volleyball, and running. I also love trying out new activities like crocheting.

I am a graduate of Carleton College in Northfield Minnesota, and received my Bachelor's degree in History with minors in Educational Studies and Public Policy. I have eight years of experience volunteering and working with children and students from ages three to fifteen. These experiences range from teaching swimming lessons, volunteering in preschool and elementary school classrooms, working as a summer camp counselor, a volunteer tutor with middle school students, and teaching a historical research course to eighth graders for two academic school years. While I tutor in a variety of areas, I especially love tutoring in writing skills, as I enjoy helping students develop their individual voice and find their strengths in writing. I believe that education is necessary for all children, as it helps inspire a lifetime of learning. I believe everyone can be successful in school, and love helping students discover their individual learning styles and help them develop successful study methods that work well for them. While I am not tutoring, I enjoy swimming, spending time outdoors hiking or skiing, knitting, baking, and reading. I especially love reading historical fiction!
