I attend the University of Houston majoring in Biomedical Engineering. Every exam taken at UH was administered through the CASA facilities; for every test there were CASA Tutoring Sessions where I volunteered for every exam in all my classes and absolutely love it! Although I did help students that were in my science classes (BIO and CHEM), I would say my strongest subject is Mathematics, particularly Calculus. I have taken Calculus - Calculus 3 and will be continuing my Math enrichment with Differential Equations this fall semester.There's no bigger pleasure than seeing a pupil exceed in a subject he or she is struggling with. And it would be my pleasure to fully dedicate my time to anybody needing help with Mathematics and Foreign Languages. I have a BA and MA in Classical Latin, and I was educated at Ball State University (Muncie, IN) and The University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. I have also done post-graduate work in Latin at the University of Chicago, and I have written a Latin text book (Ovid's Heroides I) which is currently in use in some high schools.In addition to academic writing, I am also a published fiction writer. My short stories have appeared in various literary journals. I am currently working on a novel.I have thirteen years of experience teaching in independent schools (Sacred Heart-Griffin High School, Elgin Academy, and the Latin School of Chicago). I have traveled with high school students to many destinations both domestically and in Europe. I am passionate about helping students with their study of Latin (a great language!) and about helping them improve the craftsmanship of their writing--from poetry and fiction to college essays and everything in between.I have lived in Chicago, a city I love, for ten years. I am a writer living in Brooklyn. I grew up in a suburb of Washington, D.C., and attended Oberlin College in Oberlin, OH, where I majored in history. In college I acted as an editor for the Oberlin Review and as research assistant to an English professor. I spent one semester abroad at Trinity College in Dublin, and another semester at the Williams-Mystic maritime studies program in Mystic, Connecticut. It was an eclectic undergraduate experience that left me interested in many different things and wanting to learn much more. I'm working on that.My main interests are literature, film, and travel. I love getting to know people, their stories and memories, what excites them, what they care about. I think each of us has a lot to learn and we have to help each other along.

I wish to carry on the legacy of the many great teachers that equipped my mind to discern greater truth for itself by aiming to pass on my passion and love of learning to as many students as possible.With that said, the greatest reward of my classical education has been not what I have learned but how it made me feel and where that feeling has lead me to a more complete and fulfilling existence.Within the context of the rapidly changing modern world, many lessons of the past are being foolishly forgotten that can serve us genuine good. Among the worst of such losses is, in my opinion, the richness of our connections to each other and to our world at large. However, what is remembered upon reading the classics is that the human mind creates its own posture, for the ancients were as brilliant as us but in different ways. They lived lives with the same fears and ambitions that drive us today and the same capacity for emotion and intelligence.If I can teach students to understand this more fully, I believe they may become better humans within our society and develop a heightened sensitivity to each other that will further their own learning
