I am a currently a high school mathematics teacher. I graduated from the University of Richmond majoring in Business Administration with a concentration in Marketing Analytics and a minor in Mathematics. I have worked with kids of all ages, ranging from elementary school to college students through various subjects. I have also worked extensively with special needs children, doing everything from teaching special education to one-on-one in-home mentoring. Through my experiences, I have continued to carry my passion for working with children and have developed my skills in making successful and individualized learning fun. Math, science and test prep are the subjects I'm particularly passionate about tutoring, as I've always loved those subjects myself. Additionally, I've worked extensively with adults on business skills, marketing and social media.

I recently graduated from Harvard College. I hold a B.A. in History and a lot of textbooks. I love tutoring my favorite subjects, including History (obviously), Biology (I used to want to be a doctor), Spanish (I went to Costa Rica to learn about being a doctor), and the SAT (okay, maybe *favorite* is a stretch). I also teach chess, but that's more of a hobby. I also enjoy reading, creative writing, and perfecting the poached egg (the key is vinegar). In my spare time I act, perform improv, and think about how great dogs are.As a tutor, I believe my greatest strength is that I am not a textbook. I'm here to make even the driest material interesting and personally relatable, and to talk out difficulties when they arise. I hate memorizing, and would much prefer to make everything from Biology to History into exciting (if very small) stories that are not only easy to remember, but actively difficult to forget.I've had tutors that I hated going to, and tutors that I enjoyed spending my time with, and I do my best to emulate the latter. I started tutoring in high school, but I didn't catch the teaching bug until about 3 years ago when I started teaching music to children.I believe in extra-curriculars and the arts. Whether it's sports, music, art, or theater, I believe those things are what make life worth living. For me, I play the French Horn and snowboard.My motto is ???Sometimes you need to go the extra mile. Do the extra credit. Be more than your peers expect you to be. Set the bar high and don???t be afraid to fail. Failure leads to success.???Let me be the one who helps you achieve your academic goals. I have been on both sides of the road. On one side is instant success. The other is where I see my classmates get ahead where I have fallen behind. I have had to struggle and work my way up. I recently graduated from SUNY Old Westbury with a BS in Elementary Education/Special Education. I believe with the proper tools and guidance, every student can have a meaningful educational experience. My philosophy is that each and every student learns at his or her own pace and each with their own style. It is my job to find out which methods work best for each student. Currently, I am working with a 1st grade student who has Autism. I go to her home in the mornings before school and go through a therapy program decided on by her parents and my input. Over the last year, her parents have been receiving news of her progress from the school staff. While providing therapy, I am also tutoring her to keep her up to date on homework and assignments. I love every opportunity I receive to work with students one-on-one. It is amazing what results can be seen with a little patience, hard work, and consistency!

I am a junior at Brown University pursuing a degree in Politics, Philosophy, and Economics. After I graduate, I intend to enroll in an MD/PhD program in bioethics or health policy. In the past, I have tutored students between ages 10 and 19 in Political Science, Algebra II/Trigonometry, English as a Second Language, and sixth grade English and Math. I decided to become a tutor because my math tutor (from 8th-12th grades) took me from hating math to enjoying and succeeding in it. I want to help others make that same transition--a bad teacher or tough class can crush a student's innate curiosity, but a good tutor can restore it.I currently tutor students in the social and biological sciences (elementary school through college level), reading and writing, and in standardized test preparation. I am also an avid debater, and coach debate at a high school in Providence, RI. When I am not tutoring, I enjoy creative writing, singing, painting, horseback riding, skiing, hiking, and traveling. People often think of history as a series of facts or see a reading assignment as an exercise in memorizing plot points. Through an understanding of narrative my students and I build reading comprehension and writing skills that translate into greater success in all disciplines.
