I am very happy with our experience so far with Varsity Tutors. They matched my daughter with reading specialist Mary and she is wonderful! My 10 year old daughter feels happy after her sessions and believes her tutor has already helped her.

As an educator with over 20 years of experience, including roles as a middle school language arts and social studies teacher and a K-5 principal, I am passionate about fostering a love for learning, particularly in history and civics. Holding a Master's degree in Educational Leadership and a Bachelor's in History/Secondary Education, I bring a strong foundation in pedagogy and curriculum development. My tutoring experience, which spans over 2 years, focuses on subjects including AP U.S. Government & Politics, AP U.S. History, and middle school English and math. My teaching philosophy centers on a strengths-based approach, where I assess each student's unique knowledge base and confidence level, allowing me to tailor lessons that encourage engagement and academic risk-taking. I believe in connecting historical concepts to real-world scenarios, igniting a passion for learning and empowering students to persist through challenges. My goal is to create a supportive learning environment where all students feel confident and capable of achieving their academic goals.

Being someone who grew up on a farm, I enjoy bringing plants back to life and growing summer flowers and vegetables outside. I also love to read when I have time, and enjoy doing yoga and walking with my dog in the woods. I love music and going to concerts and music festivals, as well as listening to my youngest son play his guitar!
