Laura: Suffolk County tutor
Certified Tutor
I've spent my career helping others connect ideas, clarify goals, and build confidenceskills that directly fuel my passion for tutoring. I love helping students uncover their unique strengths and develop the tools they need to succeed academically and beyond.
I've worked with learners of all ages in both formal and informal settings, from mentoring high school students in writing and literature to guiding professionals through strategic communication and presentation skills. These experiences have shaped my approach to tutoring: patient, personalized, and focused on growth.
I hold a Bachelor's degree in Interdisciplinary Studies with most coursework in English, Theatre and Communications, and bring years of experience in roles that required strong critical thinking, writing, and interpersonal communication. I offer tutoring in reading, writing, English literature, study skills, executive functioning, and test preparation for verbal sections. My favorite subject to tutor is writingwhether it's crafting essays, college application responses, or persuasive argumentsbecause it's where voice and structure come together to help students express who they are and what they think.
My teaching philosophy centers on encouragement and clarity. I strive to create a supportive, low-pressure environment where students feel safe taking risks, asking questions, and exploring new strategies. I believe that learning happens best when students feel heard and respected, and I love finding creative ways to explain concepts until they click.
Outside of tutoring, I enjoy spending time with my family, gardening, reading literary fiction and memoirs, and staying active with long walks and yoga. I also love cheering on my teenager at school events and sports games, which keeps me grounded in the world of students and the unique challenges they face today.
