In 2022, I received my PhD in Planning and Public Policy from the Bloustein School of Planning and Public Policy at Rutgers University and currently, I am an Assistant Teaching Professor at Drexel University. I am looking to supplement my income by online tutoring. I am highly qualified in American Politics, and Quantitative and Qualitative Research Methods.
I have been teaching at universities in Russia and the United States since 2005. I taught at Rutgers from 2017 to Spring 2022 while pursuing my PhD in public policy. Rutgers, University of Delaware, and Drexel are universities with diverse student bodies, and so I have extensive experience connecting with a wide range of students. I am mentoring college and PhD students formally, via Independent Study classes, and informally.
I have extensive experience teaching online, both synchronously and asynchronously.
As a former international doctoral student who comes from a low-income family, I am personally aware of the challenges that international students face in the United States. Having overcome these hurdles makes me even more committed to helping minority students to adapt to American academia.
I have a strong track record of addressing diversity in my classroom. First, I do my best to provide all instructional materials within Canvas, namely, students who take my classes do not have to purchase expensive textbooks. Second, to help students of different levels to understand course material, I do scaffolding assignments that build on each other. For example, in my "American Presidency" class, throughout the semester I asked students to find opinion articles about various aspects of a particular public policy issue, which could be integrated into bibliography for a final essay. Third, I help my students to build confidence with peer discussions (one student wrote in his evaluation that he for the first time in his college career stood in front of the class and talked freely). Fourth, I work to model effective discussion of controversial issues. Fifth, once I had a class comprised of mostly Chinese students with limited English. To address the situation, I took a workshop at Rutgers on teaching international students. To be able to communicate effectively, I spoke slowly in the class, and I asked students to do the same.
