As a published author and educator with over 6 years of experience teaching both ESL and ELA K-12 students, I am passionate about fostering intellectual curiosity, critical thinking, and holistic growth in my students. My teaching philosophy centers around empowering learners to explore diverse subjects, develop essential skills, and cultivate a lifelong love for learning. I try to make my lessons both fun and engaging for younger learners by incorporating games like Blooket and Gimkit as review tools. Also, I use platforms such as Mobymax and Off 2 Class to give assessments and monthly bench markers in order to monitor students' progress and ensure we address any skill gaps accordingly. I have and teach courses like Pathways, Reading Explorer, Great Writing, Unlock, Oxford Reading Tree, Reach Higher, Business English, and California Math and Science.
Education
I earned my Master of Science in Education from American Intercontinental University in 2010. During my studies, I delved into various disciplines, including Neoplatonism, analytical psychology, Behaviorism, theology, and philosophy.
I also hold a TESOL certification
Subjects I Tutor:
Writing: I guide students in honing their written expression, emphasizing clarity, coherence, and creativity while focusing on grammar, punctuation, and structure. I have taught both American and international students grades K-12.
English Language Arts: I help learners appreciate literature, improve language skills, and analyze texts critically. I currently teach American students grades 1-8 reading, writing, and grammar following common core standards while using empirically verifiable progress reports through Moby. I conduct monthly counseling meetings with parents, reviewing their child's progress and developing individualized learning plans which meet students specific needs.
Science: I demystify scientific concepts, encouraging curiosity and scientific inquiry. I currently teach Science Fusion and California Science courses to international students.
English as a Secondary Language: I support non-native English speakers in developing language proficiency. I have and teach Pathways, Great Writing, Reading Explorer, Reach Higher, Oxford Reading Tree, and more. Furthermore, I have prepared adults for the IELTS examination teaching reading, writing, speaking, and listening skills to foreign students.
In summary, my teaching philosophy revolves around nurturing intellectual curiosity, promoting interdisciplinary learning, and empowering students to thrive in a dynamic world.
