I am from Cuba and I came to United States with my family on 2004.
I graduated from Lone Star College in Houston, Texas, becoming a Spanish teacher. I had the opportunity to teach different levels of Spanish , and I started by bringing to my classroom the passion of learning a second language, and its culture; as well as teaching my students social skills, and love for all people and animals.
In the past 12 years of teaching I have had the opportunity and most amazing experience to help students discover a love of learning, to make connections with language and culture, and to develop new ideas and skills. When you know that you can make a difference in your students' lives, all the work that you put in is worth it.
Teaching Spanish is an opportunity to open peoples' eyes to another world full of different colors and tastes. It is too much fun to teach a second language through songs, videos and games. Kids really enjoy the experience and want to discover more. They get very motivated making connections with their own language and culture, and they start to appreciate a whole different culture, expanding their world and their minds.
Sharing my love with my students has been a priority during my career. I always try to be a good listener for them, and sometimes that is all they need. Knowing what they like or dislike, what they need, and where they are coming from is a priority during my interactions with them. I also share with my students some of my experiences, my human part, and my vulnerability when is needed.
I love being a language teacher. I love the opportunity to be in contact with the new generation. They teach me every day and they make me the person that I am today.
I love to read, to travel, to walk, and to hike.
I love sports, art, music and dance.
