Certified Tutor

I am passionate about bringing the world of advanced mathematics alive for all students! I taught high school math for 13 years and prior to that I worked as an engineer and also as a bookkeeper. I have a degree in Textile Engineering from Auburn University and am certified in Secondary Mathematics through the American Board for Certification of Teaching Excellence. I hold a current professional teaching certificate through the state of South Carolina including endorsements of AP Calculus AB and Gifted and Talented. My absolute favorite subjects to tutor are AP Calculus AB and PreCalculus.

My teaching philosophy is best summarized with this quote as spoken by the illustrious Headmaster Dumbledore to the very average-performing pupil Harry, in J. K. Rowling's second book of the Harry Potter series: "It is our choices that show what we truly are, far more than our abilities." That statement epitomizes everything I believe about education. If the desire and willingness to learn is present, then it does not really matter how the student has performed in the past or what their standardized test score is. It is my job to meet my students where they are and to foster that desire to continue learning!
