My philosophy of teaching is simple. I care about my students and I care about their learning. I retired from full-time teaching in June of 2022, but I found that I really missed connecting with and working with students. I taught high school math and computer programming for 33 years and want to continue helping students to learn and to achieve success. I earned my first bachelor's degree in 1987 (a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Wisconsin with a major in computer science and minors in mathematics and French). After graduation, I worked as a systems analyst in the computer industry, but it just didn't suit my personality nor my desire to make a difference for others. I wanted to teach. So, I went back to college and got a Bachelor of Science degree from the UW with a major in math as well as teacher certification for math and computer science. During my first few years of teaching, I spent my summers and evenings earning a master's degree from the UW that focused on advanced math and advanced computer programming. I have loved teaching since my first day in a classroom and have never regretted the decision I made to change careers. I enjoy math and computer science a lot, but I love working with my students even more. I do feel like I make a difference to my students and that is what drives me to be the best teacher I can possibly be. I like tutoring a variety of subjects, but my favorites are probably AP Calculus and Computer Programming. When not teaching or tutoring, I like to spend time reading, hiking, crafting, and cooking.
