Tim: The Woodlands tutor
Certified Tutor
I graduated from CUNY Hunter College with my Masters in English Literature in 2019, marking the end to a long period of intense study and travel. Since then, I have gone on to become an instructor and tutor for first-year undergraduates and older adult students at my local community college, where I have helped to coach students on ways to improve their writing and research strategies for their schoolwork and other projects. While my field of study focuses primarily on English Literature, I am eager to learn more about History, Philosophy, and the many areas of science.
I try to maintain a relaxed environment while working with students, treating my one-on-one sessions like friendly conversations, which I find helps to put students at their ease even in the face of approaching deadlines. That being said, my sessions can be as in-depth as needed. While I am happy to advise on grammar and spelling, I will switch the focus to important content concerns if I see fundamental issues that need to be addressed. My goal is to help students stay on task, and to ensure that their arguments in writing are supported by strong details and the appropriate use of evidence.
Teaching undergraduates has given me a unique perspective as I now approach my first year teaching as a certified teacher for high school English. I have seen for myself the importance of college readiness, and I have made it a professional goal of mine to better prepare students for the rigors of academic writing later in life.
When I am not reading for research or for fun, I'm a shameless nerd, and I love to talk about my latest hyperfixation in the worlds of movies, TV, anime, or video games.

Graduate Degree: CUNY Hunter College - Master of Arts, General Literature
When not focusing on my academic pursuits, I enjoy engaging with “fandom” culture on the internet and social media (I’m just mad for memes), and I like to participate in conventions whenever time and the funds allow. I’m also rediscovering my love for video games after a whole decade away from such things. Chalk it up to living on a college student’s budget all these years. I have a terrible passion for fantasy and science fiction, and I like exploring the literary heritage of these traditions in the media that I engage with in my downtime. My favorite author is Neil Gaiman. Who is yours? I like to remain physically active whenever possible. When not studying or writing or working, I like to perform daily exercises and run outdoors on a nice day. I like taking long walks, hiking through trails, and canoeing. I have also spent half my life on a bicycle, and if I had it were possible, I would simply bike to wherever I need to be. It feels incredibly satisfying when you're sitting after a long bike ride that went on for many miles.
