While working towards my Master's degree, I gained experience as a Teaching Assistant, working with students of beginner-level Spanish during their first two semesters. My doctoral-level coursework assisted me in teaching Advanced Grammar, writing, and literature courses for Spanish students at the University level.
I typically teach using a flipped-classroom style, where all activities and assignments are communicative, based in meaningful communication that allow students to use the target language in a way that encourages memory, as opposed to mechanical exercises.
What I love most about foreign-language instruction in particular is that any particular student's interests can be incorporated into the practice itself. This helps to lower the affective filter (anxiety particular to second-language acquisition) and encourages more genuine interest in the subject matter, all while facilitating their education.
Study of literature in general allows for deeper thinking, the formation of critical opinions, rather than simply consuming the information itself, which is imperative for AP and IB exams.

Undergraduate Degree: University of Richmond - Bachelor in Arts, English
I play piano and sing, and have been working on learning the guitar. I am a passionate animal lover and spend quite a bit of time taking care of my many pets, as well as volunteering at local libraries and nursing homes where therapy dogs visit children and the elderly. I am always learning more and keeping up with my Spanish practice by reading and listening to authentic Spanish-language cultural material. This allows me to find more authentic content for my students as well.
