I am a graduate of the University of Central Arkansas, where I received both my Bachelor of Arts and my Master of Arts in English. I am also licensed to teach both middle school and high school in the state of Arkansas. For 12 years, I taught composition and literature courses at colleges in Arkansas, Oklahoma, and Texas. Last year, in addition to my tutoring at Varsity, I worked as a substitute teacher in a local elementary school. I have been fortunate to work with a wide variety of students --from kindergarten to college --in a wide variety of places: from small community colleges in rural Arkansas, to larger colleges in metropolitan areas like Oklahoma State University in Oklahoma City and Collin College in Dallas. Although online tutoring has its challenges, I have found success at finding ways to bring my enthusiasm in the classroom to the Varsity platform. Although I have tutored students on many subjects, including reading comprehension, film, philosophy, and world literature, my areas of focus are literature, poetry, and composition (primarily composing essays). In fact, I am particularly proud of a step-by-step method to composing essays I developed and have been using for years to much success. I am a life-long learner, and I am passionate about creating an environment for students that is safe and conducive to learning.
