I hold a PhD in experimental physics: Dense Media and Materials. I have traveled and worked in various countries. USA, Canada, Belgium France, UAE. My professional experience encompasses industry, research centers (Solar cells) and more recently Academia as faculty in a UAE university where I taught undergraduate and graduate level courses in the physics and materials engineering field. Since my return to the US about a year ago, I teach Physics as an adjunct Professor at a community college and of course as a tutor with varsity tutors since February 2022. I have been in contact with students for over 25 years starting as TA (Teaching Assistant) during my PhD years) and as a teacher/instructor in class or online after I started my academia job. I have also tutored occasionally students one on one, typically for physics topics for university students and many times High school senior students for topics such as Algebra, Geometry, Calculus. I have worked also with students in my capacity as a supervisor for their research projects (MSc graduate level).
On a personal note, I have tutored my daughter as well on STEM topics for three years (for grades 7,8 and 9) as she was enrolled in online based school.
I find teaching very passionate, rewarding when the student improves over time. Of course it is a challenging position. Being able to explain a topic, requires an in depth understanding of the subject matter and also being able to "read" the student and identify the fault lines and address them early on.
My teaching philosophy revolves around one main objective: Help the student realize his/her full potential. This involves first illustrating to the students the societal relevance of science and technology. Then, teaching students how to tackle a complex problem by breaking it down to manageable tasks, it is critical for their enrichment and to keep them at all times engaged in a positive way. With this approach, I follow the underlying dual guiding principle that students are constructing their own knowledge rather than receiving it on one hand. While on the other hand, also covering factual and practical knowledge as is the case for STEM classes.
My style follows these principles:
1- Set clear and realistic milestones for students in order to help them focus their work.
2- Constant focus on the core concepts of any subject taught. Address any
misconception immediately to avoid confusion.
3- Being inspiring and excited at all times for the field of physics, mathematics and science in general.
