Certified Tutor

I am a semi-retired Associate Professor Emeritus from Piedmont Virginia Community College and taught mathematical topics ranging from arithmetic to multivariable calculus for seventeen years. I love mathematics and I love helping students with it. I enjoy guiding students on their path into the logic and beauty of the subject, while simultaneously emphasizing practical skills, efficiency and techniques. My goal is to enable students to truly understand the math they are working onnot just the "how" but also the "why." It is my belief that when students think about the underlying logic and connections in mathematics they have much success in their pursuits. I also am an avid listener and encourage students to ask lots of questions.
I especially enjoy tutoring geometry, algebra, trigonometry, calculus, and SAT prep. I have a Bachelors degree in mathematics from Amherst College and a Masters in mathematics from the University of Virginia.
