As long ago as the late 70s, I still remember teachers who had a big influence on me. They had a special ability to put themselves in my shoes. They were the few who gave me my "Ah Ha!" moments. I enjoy seeing the look in my students' eyes when it "clicks".
I earned my B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Missouri University of Science and Technology. I'm mechanically inclined and hands on. I spent my entire career in manufacturing environments where I did design and stress analysis. Designing for producibility and cost savings became innate for me.
I tutor high school Algebra, Calculus, physics and AP physics. At the college level, I tutor Calculus I and Intro to Physics. Currently, I'm considering tutoring Statics and Dynamics for mechanical engineering.
Physics has always been one of my favorite subjects.
I like to learn what interests my students academically and otherwise. Sometimes, the biggest hurdle a student has is not knowing what it is they "don't get". I can identify if grasping concepts is the issue or simply not knowing a methodical way to set up and start problems is. Using recognizable analogies is my favorite way to unravel conceptual mysteries.
As a teenager, I rather enjoyed the company of adults. I think that's why I communicate well with young people. I like knowing I can learn from them as well. And, I'm a sucker for quick wit.
I don't believe grades are the only indication of intelligence. It's rewarding to show a student how bright-minded they really are. I work best with students who enjoy learning and seeing the everyday applications of the subject matter.

Following my left brain or right brain on any given day has always been a conundrum. I love a creative muse as much as I enjoy a good book on astrophysics (chortle). I enjoy gourmet cooking, oil painting and being on a beach listening to the waves crash. I'm also at home designing complex mechanisms in 3D solids, running a new 220V line from the breaker box or creating a new workout that my worn out lower back can handle.
