Finding creative and impactful ways to get others excited to learn has been a driving passion in my life. I began my career in education in 2012 at the Brookfield Zoo, where I spent over 1,000 talking to guests of all ages about animals and the importance of wildlife conservation. As a volunteer educator, the most fulfilling moments for me were when I saw a guest light up with excitement, and sharing the joy that I find in nature.
I graduated with high distinction from the University of Minnesota with a B.S. in conservation biology and dual minors in communications and animal behavior. After graduation, I worked as an education specialist for a land trust in Iowa, where I created educational materials, activities, and presentations on nature for community members across age groups. Today, I am completing a master's in wildlife science at Auburn University.
I started offering one-on-one tutoring in January 2021, and have worked with more than 40 students since. While I adore my students, my goal is always for them to stop needing me. In other words, I strive to provide them with the critical thinking, problem-solving, and organizational skills that they need in order to be successful, independent learners.
While my academic background is in math, biology, and environmental science, I also have experience tutoring English, writing, and literature. As an educator, it's important to me to model a passion for learning. I try to bring energy and excitement to every lesson I teach, both to motivate my students and to demonstrate my investment in them. I also carefully listen to my students' thoughts and feelings, so I can gain insight into how they learn best and adapt my approach to their needs.
I have experience working with students with ADHD, dyslexia, and language comprehension disorders. I do all I can to mold the techniques that I use with my students to best fit their learning needs.
