Certified Tutor

I have a Ph.D. in English and Comparative Literature and specialize in tutoring SAT/ACT reading comprehension, language and grammar, and general writing. For the last 25-years, I have taught expository writing at the college level, along with courses in literature, modern poetry, and popular culture. When it comes to the SAT/ACT, there are two important things to understand in order to be successful: the first is that the tests are objective, which means there can be only one right answer to each question; the second is that the only thing the SAT/ACT measures is your ability to master the test. To correctly answer SAT/ACT questions, you do not need to call upon your general knowledge or interpretive ability. The correct answer to every SAT/ACT question is located somewhere in the text of the passage. You just have to find it. With this in mind, the skill you need to cultivate is your ability to read closely and carefully. Admittedly, close and careful reading of the kind required by the SAT/ACT does not come naturally to most, and this is one of the areas where I can help. SAT/ACT questions are often worded deceptively, but I can show you how to distinguish between the essential and non-essential. Similarly, their answer choices can also be deceptive the difference between a right and wrong answer can be the use of just one misleading adjective in a specific answer choice. I'll show you how to carefully read the various answer choices and then measure them against what is actually written in the text. This will eventually increase both your accuracy and speed because you will learn how to discount wrong answer choices swiftly and without needless pondering. Remember that for the test to be statistically valid, there can be only one objectively right answer to any single question. I can show you how to find the objectively right answers every time.
