Certified Tutor

I graduated from Weber State University in Ogden, Utah with my Bachelor's in Math Education. I taught 8th grade math at Orion Junior High in Harrisville, Utah for two years, which included units about algebra, geometry, and statistics. What I love about teaching is the students: getting to know their interests and personalities. I like to laugh and be a nerd with my students while passionately showing them how fascinating and applicable math is for real life. I tutored students in college in precalculus, calculus, geometry, trigonometry, and statistics. My favorite subjects in math are geometry and trigonometry because they are very visual, intuitive, and applicable to art, architecture, physics, and more. I love helping students adopt a growth mindset about math. I enjoy helping them connect the dots, see patterns, and feel confident when the "ah-hah" moment hits.
As a tutor, I enable students to identify where their understanding gaps are and make connections with prior knowledge so that they can reach higher levels of problem solving. I think it is important for students to connect abstract ideas and formulas with models, pictures, graphs, tables, or verbal language so they can not only know HOW to think through a process and complete the steps, but also that they know WHY it all works and where it comes from.
My husband and I have a 16-month old daughter and two dogs. In my down time, I like to go for walks with my family. I also enjoy playing the piano, singing, journaling, and spending time with friends and family.
