Certified Tutor

I am a fourth-year at Pomona College, taking the year off to work due to the pandemic. I am working towards my B.A. in International Relations, and have concentrated on religious philosophy and post-nationalist political theory as well. In Los Angeles County, where I attend college, I have previously tutored children and adults who were English-language learners in reading, English literature, and writing. This background allowed me to work across a range of needs in writing and reading comprehension and ground my teaching practice in what felt most relevant to the needs of my students. I particularly love working with students through any and every part of the writing process and helping them find their own voice along the way, skills I find to be underemphasized in middle and high school education. My own experience preparing for dozens of standardized tests, from APs to the ACT to SAT subject tests, has also been instructive in helping students create study plans and bolster specific skills to succeed on these exams. After graduation, I hope to pursue a career in secondary education, working either as a social studies or English high school teacher.
