Pero: Skokie tutor
Certified Tutor
I am a graduate of Carson-Newman University, where I received a B. S. Psychology degree with a focus on memory and learning.
I hope we can explore mathematics and science together! Sometimes studying can feel dull, but real learning feels like a game; as you get better and gain confidence it feels good to keep mastering new challenges. That is my aim - to make you feel like learning is engaging and fun, not a chore or something you 'have to get done'. I don't want you to memorize facts - you have the ability to understand the subjects you are learning, which will prepare you for new kinds of problems you've never seen before.
Here are a few details for why you might consider me a qualified tutor:
- Won a top-of-class general chemistry award at Maryville College.
- Achieved As in college-level Calculus, Prob & Stats, and Experimental Design.
- Participated in Cognitive Science and Social Psychology experiment design and data analysis as a research intern.
- Graduated cum laude with a Psychology degree, specializing in memory and learning.
While in college, I spent over 2,000 hours tutoring middle and high school students in mathematics and for the math and science sections of the ACT. I approach middle schoolers with respect - they need to see commitment before they give commitment, and I have worked with enough children to understand that. They are sometimes wiser about where to commit themselves than we are as adults! High schoolers need to know why they are studying mathematics and science, or these subjects become meaningless, and they start to feel unmotivated. Mathematics is the language of nature, and there are real-world applications for everything we learn in the classroom, although not everyone can readily explain the power of math and science.
