Certified Tutor

I have been a Special Education Instructional Assistant for three years. Currently, I teach Resource Math to 6th-8th grade and I progress monitor several students in 9th and 10 grade twice a week. In addition to Mathematics, I have also taught ESL to children and adults, music appreciation, social studies and English/language arts. Teaching students is my calling; my passion. It's more than a job. And I look at each student as an individual. Sometimes, they struggle because they are hungry, or there is conflict in their life and it negatively affects their learning. I make students feel at ease and am always upbeat and positive. I adjust the pace of learning to fit each individual student and I care about them as a person. Students I have taught in the past still come up to me in the high school and tell me how much they learned from me and how they are progressing in the higher grades because I took the time to help them understand on their level. Not every student is an auditory learner, some are visual, some are kinetic. I take the time to find out which learning style fits them best and then lesson plan around that. I want the student to be successful. That is my greatest joy. I am also learning alongside of them, and currently taking online classes in personal development and language to help in my local church with language barriers.
