Certified Tutor

I am a passionate, multifaceted, and inclusive educator who has taught and tutored adults, high-school students, and middle-school students.

I hold a doctorate (PhD) and a master's degree (MA) in Medieval Studies, concentrating on Middle English literature and medieval philosophy, from the University of Toronto. I also hold a bachelor's degree (BA) in English and Philosophy, with a minor in Classics, from the University of Florida, from which I graduated, summa cum laude, as a valedictorian.

My primary teaching area is English: American, British, and Canadian literature; formal, technical, and creative writing and composition; grammar; rhetoric; English as a Second Language (ESL); and standardized tests including the TOEFL, the IELTS, and the English portions of the SSAT, ACT, and SSAT. My secondary teaching areas include debate; public speaking; ancient, medieval, and Renaissance history; mythology; religion; and philosophy.

My students love me not only because of my evident excitement about textual material and big ideas, but also for my warmth, my frequently absurd sense of humor, my readiness to give anyone the benefit of any plausible doubt, and my absolute respect for each individual with whom I have the pleasure of interacting.

In 2011, I received an Outstanding Teaching Award in English from the University of Toronto.
