I received my English Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of North Carolina Wilmington in 2004, and then earned my Masters of Education degree from Holy Family University in December of 2006. Three months later, I started teaching high school English in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. Over the past twelve years, I have taught a variety of courses ranging from English I to Advanced Placement English Language and Composition. During this time, I have continued to further my education through graduate courses at Coastal Carolina University, adding Gifted/Talented, as well as AP English Language & Composition
to my licensure, and earning an Instructional Technology certificate. These have all contributed to my students' success rates on standardized tests, such as ACT/SAT, AP Language, and End-of-Course State exams. While I love everything about teaching English, from analyzing a text for its purpose and message to writing clearly and concisely, my greatest passion exists in dissecting and using proper grammar. These critical strategies students learn in English can be applied to so many other arenas, but a real connection between teacher and student must first exist to build a foundation for true growth. I aim to engage students on a personal level to make all learning more meaningful. With this philosophy, I can help develop students' reading, writing, analysis, and critical thinking skills to not only support their traditional classroom education but also to improve their test scores.
In my free time, I love taking road trips, going to the beach with my family, and restoring my energy with yoga.
