I tutor students of all ages, in many subjects, but focus on reading and writing skills, which are important in nearly every subject, not to mention every profession. This is one motivation for learning those skills, but I always try to help students find their own personal motivation.
I meet students where they are in their learning process so we can build from there, together. I know the study skills that tend to work best, but I always tailor them to the individual. Also, whenever possible I give students opportunities to apply their skills to what is most interesting to them and help them search for new things to learn. I want students to actually enjoy reading and writing as much as I want them to reach their full academic potential.
I have a master's in English Education from the University of Illinois at Chicago and an Illinois Professional Educator License endorsed for middle and high school English language arts. After completing the teacher licensure program I spent an extra year in the master's Program for Writers, where I will enter the doctoral program this year.
Over the past two years I have worked as a professional tutor at a local private tutoring company in addition to Varsity Tutors and enjoy teaching now more than ever. I care so much about all of my students and want every one of them to be the very best they can be.
