I am very happy with our experience so far with Varsity Tutors. They matched my daughter with reading specialist Mary and she is wonderful! My 10 year old daughter feels happy after her sessions and believes her tutor has already helped her.

Michael: Long Island tutor

Certified Tutor

I'm a first year graduate student in UC Davis's Applied Mathematics program. I just graduated with my bachelors in Electrical and Computer Engineering and Mathematics at the University of Arizona. I spent two years in Dr. Jean-Marc Fellous's lab doing computational neuroscience, a year working for the Coast Guard designing and building a Machine Learning denoiser for distress calls, and a semester and a half tutoring students with learning disabilities through the Strategic Alternative Learning Techniques (SALT) Center. Throughout my college career, I regularly spent time helping peers and friends with their courses, and I take pride in my long-practiced skill of distilling complex ideas into simple explanations.

Not surprisingly, I love all sorts of mathematics and science, and I love showing people the beauty of the ideas undergirding them. I place a high value on explaining concepts in a simple way, interconnecting ideas, and cultivating solid foundations. To get a feel for my passion and teaching style, take a look at michaelragone.com, my blog.

Finally, I love cooking, coffee, and music.
