For the past five years, I have taught writing courses that help students transition from High School-level English to College-level English. I have also been tutoring for eight years. I received a PhD in English Literature in December 2017 from Cornell University. My focus was on Shakespeare's plays, but I have also taught courses on detective fiction, pop culture, and short stories. I currently offer tutoring in essay writing, English grammar and syntax, American Literature (High school and college level), study skills, ACT Writing, SAT Writing and Language, and SAT Reading, the GRE literature subject test, the verbal portion of the GRE, AP English Language, and AP English Literature. I am passionate about helping students because really great teaching, teaching that connects and communicates, will stay with a student for life. Teaching well means listening well. I love to learn how people think about the tasks they are facing--it is always interesting in its own right and shows me how they can build on their strengths and re-shape what they are doing in order to get good results now and, even more importantly, develop lasting skills. These abilities stick and increase one's long-term capacity to handle information, organize one's thoughts and communicate effectively. Outside of my academic work, I like cooking, book reviewing, and reading science fiction and fantasy.
