Certified Tutor

I began tutoring as a junior in high school. I volunteered at the school's writing center for two years, during which I gained a great appreciation for the relationship between tutor and student. I absolutely love the camaraderie that stems from the one-on-one learning experience.

Though I was deeply interested in literature and creative writing, I pursued a bachelor's degree in psychology with a focus in cognitive science. While in college, I also minored in creative writing, focusing on poetry.

When I finished college, I went straight into a master's program in creative writing. I spent two years reading and writing poetry in the charming town of Iowa City it was a dream. Even more wonderful than the poetry itself was the opportunity I had to teach creative writing to undergraduates during my second year in the program. My students ranged from 17 to 29, and I had a valuable and unique relationship with each of them. I'm now credentialed to teach at the college level and have experience doing so in the genres of personal narrative, fiction, and poetry.

When teaching writing, I encourage my students to deepen their understanding of the work by exploring other art forms, including music and film.

I look forward to working with a wide variety of students.
