I am a Doctor of Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine. Education has been one of the most import aspects of my life. It allowed me to follow my dreams and open my own integrative medical practice in Florida. From a young age I understood and valued everything education has to offer, with this enthusiasm I enjoy helping others see their true potential. With an integrative and interactive approach tailored to each student I believe I can help motivate students and encourage them to be the best they can be.

What is your teaching philosophy?
I believe in project-based learning; it incorporates multimedia and research to solidify new and abstract ideas!
What might you do in a typical first session with a student?
I would look for their strengths, see what they are passionate about, and help them build up from their weaknesses. I would also evaluate how organized they are and work together to stay focused and on track.
How can you help a student become an independent learner?
Positive reinforcement. By playing to a student's strengths, they feel more confident and willing to take in more information and be genuinely interested.
How would you help a student stay motivated?
Organization has been on of the greatest tools in my success, and I love teaching others how to be organized. I feel disorganization is one of the biggest precursors to losing focus and motivation.
If a student has difficulty learning a skill or concept, what would you do?
Learn the skill over. I feel most confident teaching a skill when I know the information well. I would also see what's holding the student back, at what stage of learning the issue is and reinforce the disharmony.
How do you help students who are struggling with reading comprehension?
Enacting a book club with the student. This will allow us to work together and increase their interest in reading. Also, educating students in the many benefits of reading for pleasure.
What strategies have you found to be most successful when you start to work with a student?
Giving students the opportunity to ask questions, and spending time on an answer. Most students are afraid to ask questions, but by showing them it's okay and beneficial, they are more willing to ask.
How would you help a student get excited/engaged with a subject that they are struggling in?
First, I would find what about the subject they don't like. Secondly, I would look for their strongest points in that subject. Lastly, I would reinforce the idea of having a strong foundation to learn even more, whether it's related to the subject or multidisciplinary.
What techniques would you use to be sure that a student understands the material?
Cornerstone projects; this could include multimedia presentations, video projects, documents, and other multimedia that allows the student to show what they have learned in a new format that has to be made from scratch.
How do you build a student's confidence in a subject?
Allowing a student to focus on their strengths will help them gain confidence and have them dig deeper into topics they are less confident in, but are more willing to do so.
How do you evaluate a student's needs?
General questions, asking as we move along in a section.
What types of materials do you typically use during a tutoring session?
I enjoy incorporating multimedia in a tutoring session. This would include videos, PowerPoints, and quizzes.
How do you adapt your tutoring to the student's needs?
I would like to have all the students I work with take a learning styles quiz. When I was in high school, we were asked to do this, and this allowed the teacher to be flexible in our different learning styles.
