What is your teaching philosophy?

I believe learning should be fun. I try to make tutoring an enjoyable experience. I like to set goals with my students and challenge them to reach beyond their goals.

What might you do in a typical first session with a student?

In a typical first session I would like to discuss what our long term and short term goals are, as well as discussing what we would like to work on in each tutoring session. Then, hopefully we will have time to get down to business.

How can you help a student become an independent learner?

I can help students to become independent learners by asking them indirect questions about problems. I also like for my students to study outside of tutoring sessions. So I will guide my student to do so.

How would you help a student stay motivated?

I'm a very positive person, so keeping a student excited about learning is not hard for me. I also like to reward my students when they've accomplished something.

If a student has difficulty learning a skill or concept, what would you do?

I would likely take a break and allow the student to focus their energy on some other material. I would find a new way to explain the concept. I would create practicing tools for the student to use to strengthen their understanding of the material.

What strategies have you found to be most successful when you start to work with a student?

I've found that being organized and having a routine study plan can be very helpful.

What techniques would you use to be sure that a student understands the material?

I would make practice problems as well as ask indirect questions to test the student's understanding of the material.
