Certified Tutor

I love to teach! I love when I am able to help someone understand what once was too difficult to understand.

I work in an elementary school right now, and am working on my masters in Education. I plan to be teaching a very long time.

In my free time, I love to spend it with my family. I also, love to go on adventures, whether that is a simple hike, or a trip to a different country. However, I also love to relax and read a good book, or watch a movie.

What is your teaching philosophy?

My teaching philosophy is that if my student doesn't understand, it is my fault, and I need to find a way to help them understand!

What might you do in a typical first session with a student?

I would want to get to know them and find out what makes them tick and how I can help them in our next sessions. I would also ask them what they expect from me and what they expect from the class.

How can you help a student become an independent learner?

By helping them find their reason. We sometimes just need to find the meaning behind what we are learning, and then we are able to accomplish our tasks.

How would you help a student stay motivated?

I would help them stay motivated by showing them their constant progress.

If a student has difficulty learning a skill or concept, what would you do?

I would find another way to help them. My teaching style would change based on their needs.

How do you help students who are struggling with reading comprehension?

I would go back to the basics. I would help them understand the important keywords before we could progress.

What strategies have you found to be most successful when you start to work with a student?

I have found that the most successful strategy is to never give up on my students.

How would you help a student get excited/engaged with a subject that they are struggling in?

I would help them find a reason for what they are studying.

What techniques would you use to be sure that a student understands the material?

I would use a few. I would lead them to find their own answers, but by giving them ample and adequate tools.

How do you build a student's confidence in a subject?

A student's confidence is paramount to their success, so I would celebrate the little things and the little improvements they have made.

How do you evaluate a student's needs?

I would evaluate their needs by doing my research on a student. I would look at what they need and talk to them about their struggles and what they think they need help in.

How do you adapt your tutoring to the student's needs?

I would adapt to their needs if there is a problem with understanding. But, as a tutor, I should always be adapting my teaching to their needs.

What types of materials do you typically use during a tutoring session?

I would use videos, books, a dictionary, technology, etc.
