There are many ways to learn a subject, and its the tutors job to provide the student with the best opportunities to learn. This is partly done by getting to know the student and developing a teaching method that works best for that particular student.
I graduated UIUC with a BA in Statistics. I completed 2 actuarial exams and worked in the field for 3 years before deciding to pursue a career as an actor. My diverse background allows me to think both critically and creatively and I believe this to be my biggest strength.
I am friendly and punctual and I sincerely look forward to assist my students achieve their academic goals.

What is your teaching philosophy?
There are many ways to learn a subject, and it's the tutor's job to provide the student with the best opportunities to learn. This is partly done by getting to know the student and developing a teaching method that works best for that particular student.
What might you do in a typical first session with a student?
The first session should be to warm up and gain the trust of the student. Form a solid relationship and get an honest feel for how comfortable the student is with the subject. Then, move on to some practice problems to see their problem-solving methods. Most importantly, get acquainted!
How can you help a student become an independent learner?
You give them the tools and not just the answers. Teach them to use the tools, and they can solve problems knowing they have these tools in their kit!
How would you help a student stay motivated?
Motivation is tied to incentive. Every student has goals and dreams. Their education is in some way connected to that. Helping the student to see that their success is tied to the work is important.
If a student has difficulty learning a skill or concept, what would you do?
I would keep working with them. Persistence is key, but it's also important to adapt and find a way to make the concepts stick. Trying a different method until you can see a light turn on for the student would be important.
