Hi everyone! I'm a Business and Communications major from the University of Michigan with a passion for helping my students achieve their full potential. I believe all students do better when they have fun (and maybe even become passionate about) learning the subjects they struggle with, and it is absolutely imperative in my teaching method that everyone's enjoying themselves! Learning should be fun, since it's something we all continue to do for the rest of our lives, even after we graduate. If this sounds like a fit, I'm always happy to help, and look forward to meeting you!

What is your teaching philosophy?

Everyone should be having fun while they learn! It helps retention, increases motivation, and optimizes results. Students should expect to work hard, but receive lots of encouragement and an honest assessment of their strengths and opportunities.

What might you do in a typical first session with a student?

Let's get to know each other and figure out how our strengths can complement each other. My first step is to assess learning style, personality type, and identify measurable goals to set for our sessions.

How can you help a student become an independent learner?

Instill passion for learning, as well as the belief that any skill set can be developed with focus and self-discipline.

How would you help a student stay motivated?

Encouragement and praise, as well as keeping a record of where we started out together so we can track how much we've progressed and learned along the way!

If a student has difficulty learning a skill or concept, what would you do?

Patience- reiterating the key learning points, but perhaps framing up the explanation from a different angle or using a different method. It's also effective to use examples from the student's real-life experiences to make the concept more relatable. That's why it's so important to get to know each student on a personal level!

How do you help students who are struggling with reading comprehension?

Break it down into small parts! Explain the key identifying factors being the overarching topic/tone of the piece and the sentences that are simply there to reinforce the argument. Reading comprehension can be an intimidating subject as a whole, so it needs to be taken into smaller pieces.

What strategies have you found to be most successful when you start to work with a student?

Getting to know each other, and figuring out the student's personality and learning style so I can best cater my teaching methods to effectively bring out their learning capability!
