Hello! I am a veterinarian and toxicologist and enjoy tutoring students of all backgrounds. I am fluent in Spanish and would enjoy working with ESL students. I have taken a lot of tests in my life and understand the stress/anxiety it can cause. I really enjoy different learning styles and helping students identify the best way for them to digest material. I want to help you overcome any obstacles that might be in your way and make it fun along the way!
I love to travel, hike, and explore the outdoors by many different routes! I love trail running and swimming outside. Other hobbies and interests include learning local languages, trying new cuisines, dabbling in art and listening to music.
Professionally, I do community based water quality research on lakes in Guatemala and Kenya and hope to combined my veterinary background and research interests in helping disadvantaged communities, both in the US and abroad. I believe that innovative and smart solutions can provide excellent care and improve water quality even in resource limited settings.
I teach a lot in my work, from owners of cats & dogs, to students in the lab, and firmly believe its a combination of listening, communication, organization and creativity!
Hope to hear from you soon!

What is your teaching philosophy?
I like to help students achieve their learning objectives and goals through a fun, interactive teaching style. I think it's important to figure out how each individual learns best and adopt those techniques and strategies to help them exceed their own goals. Learning can and should be fun.
What might you do in a typical first session with a student?
It's important to ask what they want out of the study sessions. I would also want to know about their interests and hobbies, so we could put a context to their objectives and study plan. Finally, I would do a low key introductory assessment of their knowledge base.
How can you help a student become an independent learner?
Navigating them through strategies to break down complicated problems, encouraging them to ask questions and asking questions of them, and pointing out multiple angles to a problem or solution.
