I was always someone who thought I knew exactly what I wanted to do with my life: engineering undergraduate degree and then law school. Recently, I learned something about myself and that is that I love teaching and tutoring. I found this out by helping out fellow students in my classes at college. Ever since then, I have decided to change my major to education. Anytime I tutor, the goal is to help the student understand the material and understand the most effective way to learn the material for them. I want to be able to help as many students as possible with these techniques.
My whole life has been centered around reading, writing, and STEM subjects, so I have learned many different ways to comprehend and understand these subjects. I can't wait to work with students who are looking for this same kind of insight. My interests outside of tutoring and education include reading, writing, and horseback riding.

What is your teaching philosophy?
Every student has the ability to learn any subject; it is entirely dependent on how that subject is taught. I have encountered many students who have told me that they "can't" learn a subject when, in reality, they just needed a new angle to approach it from. My goal is to make sure every student knows that they can learn anything they set their minds to.
What might you do in a typical first session with a student?
My goals in a first session are always to see where the student is at with their subject and what troubles they are having. This can be learned through working out some sample problems and just talking about where the student thinks that they are struggling.
How would you help a student stay motivated?
The best way to keep anyone motivated is to feel success. That might be getting one or two problems right after struggling with some math, or having a concept click. It is important that every session has a victory, no matter how small.
How do you help students who are struggling with reading comprehension?
To work on reading comprehension, the easiest way to start is reading out loud, one paragraph at a time, and then discussing what happened by finding keywords and phrases. After that, slowly moving from reading out loud and to longer sections of text.
