My main interests is in global affairs and development issues. I have been educated in different school systems from around the world and recognize what style of teaching and approach is best in education. I've been enrolled in the Cambodian government school, graduated from NY high school and completed the International Baccalaureate, French Honors, and National Honors program. I also graduated with a self-designed Bachelor's degree titled The Nature of Imbalance: East Asian Politics and Media from the University of Redlands and I recently received my Master's degree in Global Affairs from Rutgers University.

During my time at Rutgers I helped assist students in research and have given talks and lectures to high school and university students as part of my work with the Center for the Study of Genocide and Human Rights and the Documentation Center of Cambodia.

In terms of my tutoring experience, I have worked with students from middle school to college students assisting them in learning social sciences and Chinese language (beginner's level). My objective is to help students find his or her own unique learning styles to help the student learn the materials better and smarter. My goal is to also teach students ways to tackle and solve a problem in addition to learning time management, as it is necessary skills that is important in other aspects of daily life.

Outside of academia, I love to watch films. I'm also rediscovering my love for indoor bouldering. I also love to cook Asian food. My favorite animals are mountain gorillas and dogs - my favorite breeds are husky, golden retriever, collie, newfoundland, and chow chow.

What is your teaching philosophy?

To learn to tackle and solve problems and to critically think.

What might you do in a typical first session with a student?

The first session is a get-to-know session, and then I evaluate the student's learning style and needs.

How can you help a student become an independent learner?

By building confidence and teaching them various methods of learning and obtaining information from outside sources.

How would you help a student stay motivated?

By making tutoring sessions fun, and by listening to what they need and patiently working with them.

If a student has difficulty learning a skill or concept, what would you do?

I would go over the skill or concept multiple times over various tutoring sessions and make sure that the student understands it.

How do you help students who are struggling with reading comprehension?

I would help them by teaching ways to extract important information from the reading and teaching them how to take effect notes.

What strategies have you found to be most successful when you start to work with a student?

Building trust and confidence with the student, finding out what learning style best suits their need, and making learning fun.

How would you help a student get excited/engaged with a subject that they are struggling in?

One way would be to find materials outside of the classroom relevant to the topic, such as a video or news article.

What techniques would you use to be sure that a student understands the material?

I would ask them questions about the subject at the end of each session to gauge if they understand the materials. If not I would create an online quiz that they can take to make sure they understand the materials. I would also employ other online teaching materials that the student has free access to.

How do you build a student's confidence in a subject?

By making sure that they understand the material and are having fun learning it.

How do you evaluate a student's needs?

I would try out different learning methods to see what they respond best to.

How do you adapt your tutoring to the student's needs?

By trying out different methods to see how the student learns best and by listening to them about what they need and how to solve the problem together.

What types of materials do you typically use during a tutoring session?

The student's homework/instructions, class readings, notecards, highlighter, and a computer.
