What is your teaching philosophy?
With a growth mindset, there is nothing that a student can't accomplish.
What might you do in a typical first session with a student?
I would get to know the student a little bit, and then ask probing questions to see where the difficulties lie.
How can you help a student become an independent learner?
I would teach the student strategies for studying, and encourage them to find something in the topic that they enjoy - something that makes them curious to learn more.
How would you help a student stay motivated?
Encouragement. Talk about the progress they have made, and what is still to come. Encourage them that they can do it.
If a student has difficulty learning a skill or concept, what would you do?
I would break the concept into smaller, simpler steps until I see that the student can master those steps - and then try to put it together.
How do you help students who are struggling with reading comprehension?
I ask them to review the main points with me of what they just read - ask them questions. I would also encourage more and more reading of outside materials.
