I am a teacher who recently left the classroom to spend more time with my kids, but I am so passionate about teaching, that I knew I could not stay away from working with students. I absolutely glow when I get to come home and relay success stories to my spouse, who is also a teacher. In fact, there are many teachers in my family, on both sides, so I come to education quite naturally. I learned early on that building relationships with my students was key to being able to affect great change in them. I firmly believe that students won't be as driven to learn if they don't feel a connection with their teacher.
I have 12 years teaching experience in both Spanish and English. My experiences range from private alternative schools to large public schools, and various environments in between, such as charter schools, and the online learning environment. I spent one year substitute teaching in a Spanish Language Immersion School as well; meaning I only spoke Spanish to my students.
I have also worked with a variety of students. I have a great deal of experience teaching at risk youth, students with a wide variety of learning disabilities, urban youth and in a diverse public school where there were 23 different languages spoken in the halls. I spent a year teaching in the online environment too.
I graduated Magna Cum Laude with my Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology with a Spanish minor from the University of Missouri-Saint Louis. I was also awarded a Pierre Laclede Honors College Certificate. I graduated with my Masters in Secondary Education from the University of Missouri-Saint Louis. I am a lifelong learner, and hope to instill the desire for lifelong learning in each of my students as well. Along with this philosophy I have future plans of obtaining my Doctorate. I cannot ever imagine a time in my life when I won't be learning. In fact, I find I learn through teaching, and often learn from my students.
I am available to tutor in all levels of Spanish, including AP and Spanish Literature. I am also available to tutor in Language Arts, Literature and ACT Prep in the areas of Language Arts, Reading, and Writing.
I love to tutor both subjects as both subjects are equally endearing to me. I really have no preference, and always have great enthusiasm for both.
In my spare time, I love spending time with my husband, and our two kids. I have a 9 year old daughter, and a 1 year old son. My daughter has already captured my love of languages. She comprehends Spanish, and also speaks fluent Mandarin as she attends a Chinese Language Immersion School.
My personal interests include reading, baking, and practicing yoga.

How do you adapt your tutoring to the student's needs?
I find out in the very first session what the purpose of needing a tutor is and what the ultimate learning goal is. I then tailor my lessons to meet the student's ability and their goals. I continuously assess where we are and where we are headed. I always have a plan.
What types of materials do you typically use during a tutoring session?
I bring a notebook and pen with me to each session along with a lesson plan. I take notes as we go through, so I can see where we have been and what still needs to be covered. I also bring any necessary materials, such as books for my lesson and to assist the student.
