Apurva: Alpharetta tutor
Certified Tutor
Hi! My name is Apurva. I am a student in Chemical and Biological Engineering at CU Boulder entering my Junior year. I believe that the key to being a successful tutor is to build a strong relationship with the students I am tutoring. I recognize that everyone has a different learning pattern, so I adapt everyone's lesson plan to a style that will maximize learning! The second most important aspect of tutoring is open communication. I am always open to change, so please let me know if there is anything I can do to help you learn more effectively. I've been tutoring for 4 years now and really enjoy it. It is a great way for me to solidify that material I know as well as teach others in a way they are inclined to learn! The subjects that I love tutoring the most are math (Algebra, Trig, and Calculus), Chemistry (Honors or AP), and ACT test prep! Last but not least, I love writing and have grown to enjoy it more over the years, so I would be very interested in helping with any college essays!
In my free time, I love hiking, or most outdoor activities! It is a great way to be active as well as relieve any stress, which is necessary as a college student! I also love to sketch and paint.

What is your teaching philosophy?
My teaching philosophy stems from the three E's: Enthusiasm, Excellence, and Efficiency. I am very enthusiastic about teaching students and I hope it shows! I believe that every student can reach his or her goal in learning and understanding. Efficiency is key when tutoring, and I know I will be able to adapt to a student's learning style to maximize efficiency.
What might you do in a typical first session with a student?
Before a first session, I would contact the student to learn more about what they want to achieve in the upcoming sessions. This way I can plan problem sets for the student and I to go through during the sessions. I would also gauge where the student is with the problem set and understand what he or she needs the most help on.
