What is your teaching philosophy?

Education is a holistic and integrative process. Our brains learn best when we can make connections and by using various types of media, as well as cultural and physical connections.

What might you do in a typical first session with a student?

From the moment we meet, we are building our relationship. I want to get to know you and your educational goals, and I want you to know who I am and why I do what I do. This first session is for beginning to build those first steps to success!

How can you help a student become an independent learner?

By working on building effective study habits that work for each individual student, we will work towards the ultimate goal of being an independent learner.

How would you help a student stay motivated?

Staying motivated is about staying interested and engaged. I will strive to constantly provide new and exciting activities and materials for practicing.

If a student has difficulty learning a skill or concept, what would you do?

Languages are hard to learn! We will take our time and repeat lessons as many times as we need to, and I will continue to bring in supplemental activities to help break some of the barriers that we may run into.

How do you help students who are struggling with reading comprehension?

By targeting passages and vocabulary that are struggle areas, we can more efficiently work through specific problems. We will use what you already know to help you work through tougher challenges.

What strategies have you found to be most successful when you start to work with a student?

In my experience, building trust and confidence in each other is the key to an effective learning relationship. I will always be here to help you no matter what your level or skill set. So let's work together!

How would you help a student get excited/engaged with a subject that they are struggling in?

For me, it has always been about loving what I do. If grammar isn't your thing, then let's talk about culture. What about music? There is so much about the Spanish language that is exciting and unique and we can use that to engage students that otherwise struggle with language.

What techniques would you use to be sure that a student understands the material?

Constant practice and repetition are important. It is crucial to use what you learn before you forget it all.

How do you build a student's confidence in a subject?

I am here for my students at all times-- I am here to support you! No matter where you are in your educational journey, you are doing awesome! If you are working hard, you are doing great! I will reassure my students of this every day.

How do you evaluate a student's needs?

If the needs of the student are not clear at the beginning, we can work through various activities in different subjects to find areas of challenge.

How do you adapt your tutoring to the student's needs?

Some learners are visual, while others need to write. We can utilize whatever it is that works best for the student. My lessons can be easily adapted to your needs as a learner.

What types of materials do you typically use during a tutoring session?

I like to use everything! Workbooks and writing prompts are great, but there is so much more material to be used. We can use songs, videos, and movies, anything that keeps the learner engaged and active.
