I believe any child can learn. I believe any child no matter their background, their race, their feelings about academics, can succeed if they put their mind to it and believe in itself.

I will get to know a student the first session. I will do this by playing some games as well as asking them to complete a short survey of what they know about the subject being tutored.

All students can be independent; some students may need more motivation than others. You can motivate a student by pushing their strengths, by working on their weaknesses and simply by saying words of encouragement to them each and every time you work with them.

You can motivate a student by staying optimistic no matter the situation. You can achieve this by allowing the student to make mistakes and work out their answers verbally, by simply encouraging them in each and everything that they are doing.

I would work on that skill or concept in a variety of ways. We could work on it by reading, coloring, making a song/rap out of the concept or by creating some interesting sentence about the skill that the student will remember. As a tutor, it is important to show the more difficult skills in various ways to show the student that this concept/skill can be shown in different ways.

You help students who are struggling in reading by doing read-a-louds, and by practicing reading often.

Talking with the student about their strengths and weaknesses is a great way to start. Also, giving kids an opportunity to explain to you what they know is a great way to get to know students.

Make the subject more fun for the student. You can do that by creating a song, coloring, talking about real life concepts involving the subject and many more!
