After graduating from Brown University with a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry, I moved to the Bay Area to pursue a Chemistry Ph.D. at the University of California, Berkeley. I am fortunate to be involved in a variety of teaching opportunities, including instructing a weekly undergraduate organic chemistry lab, holding office hours for chemistry courses, mentoring an undergraduate student in my own research, and teaching science lessons to local elementary school classrooms. In addition to these activities, I am particularly drawn to the focused and individualized approach that tutoring affords. I am thrilled to pass down the strategies for studying and learning that I have developed over the years. I tutor in two main subject categories: chemistry (in its many forms) and standardized testing for both college and graduate levels. For the former, I love to ground chemistry topics in their meaning and importance in the world, from fundamental concepts to the research I am currently immersed in. For the latter, I am passionate about demystifying standardized test-taking by helping students recognize patterns within the sections. I firmly believe in the importance of tailoring teaching styles to each student. My approach begins with understanding the angle from which a student initially approaches a problem and then working together through each step so that we can each share our individual thought processes. I believe in utilizing a range of strategies to find those that "click" with each student. I owe so much of my current abilities and love of learning to my teachers through the years, in both formal and informal roles, and I am thrilled to be able to pay it forward. When I am not working with students or running experiments in the lab, I enjoy taking Bollywood dance classes, cooking recipes from food blogs, and playing make-believe with my six-year-old nephew.
