I am a graduate of The University of Florida where I received my Bachelor of Science in Psychology. Since graduation, I have traveled extensively, to Brazil, Argentina, Greece, Turkey, and more. Last year, I served with City Year: a not-for-profit organization aimed at lowering the high school dropout rate through interventions to improve academics, behavior, and attendance. I worked in an English classroom teaching high school freshmen while tutoring Algebra and Geometry everyday after school. While I tutor a broad range of subjects, I am most passionate about English, Literature, Algebra, and History. I am a firm proponent of equal education opportunity for all as it is absolutely necessary for anyone to succeed. I try to encourage my students to have an appreciation for their education as it is a privilege they have and millions of others do not. I want to inspire them to try their best in all of their academics and to help them feel confident about school. In my spare time, I enjoy yoga, singing, playing soccer, and watching live theater.

What is your teaching philosophy?
I'm all about catering to my students, figuring out who they are and what they need to succeed. I want them to feel confident about their schoolwork.
What might you do in a typical first session with a student?
I would get to know a student such as where they're from and what their hobbies are. I would ask them how they learn best so I can give them the best tutoring and maximize learning.
How can you help a student become an independent learner?
Confidence is key. A student needs confidence to practice and master a skill. I want my students to know they can and they will be able to learn and solve problems without any help.
How would you help a student stay motivated?
Getting bad grades can be really discouraging, but I want my students to know they can do whatever they set their minds to. It's important to set an achievable goal they can focus on as motivation.
If a student has difficulty learning a skill or concept, what would you do?
I would try coming from a different approach. Usually when a student does not understand after multiple tries, the tutor needs to teach it a different way that caters to their learning style.
How do you help students who are struggling with reading comprehension?
I tell them that actually reading for fun on their own is most important. They will get better the more they read. Assigned readings at school can be boring for some students, so I would help them find something they are interested in and will love to read.
What strategies have you found to be most successful when you start to work with a student?
Patience is key, as it takes multiple tries before a student can understand the concept. Making it fun is also important, as kids learn the most when they're having fun.
How would you help a student get excited/engaged with a subject that they are struggling in?
Linking their passions to a subject is key. For example, if a student was interested in basketball and were struggling in math, I would make a basketball math problem about NBA stats.
What techniques would you use to be sure that a student understands the material?
I would ask them if they felt comfortable teaching the concept to a friend or to me. If they can teach it, then they know it well.
How do you build a student's confidence in a subject?
Especially in a subject they're struggling with, it is important to constantly encourage and give them positive feedback/affirmations while working on that subject.
