I graduated from Princeton University in 2005 with an A.B. in Astrophysics, and a minor in Near Eastern Studies. After graduation, I lived in Egypt for a year and a half studying Arabic at the American University of Cairo. I had always been interested in foreign policy and the Middle East (my father was a diplomat in the region). When I returned to the United States, I worked for Exxon Mobil and the Senate Foreign Relations Committee on Capitol Hill before starting law school at Georgetown in 2011.

While in law school, I became a much more organized and effective thinker and explainer. In other words, I became a much better teacher. Law school gives you the skills to tailor your argument to the person in front of you. And I think this is what makes a good teacher. People learn in all sorts of ways, and it's the job of a good teacher to tailor his/her explanation of the material to the student's needs.

After law school, I have held several jobs. I clerked for a Federal Judge in Cleveland, worked in statewide public policy in Ohio for two years, and now I am a drug policy advocate and writer in New York.

I have a diverse set of interests and skills, and so I believe I can effectively tutor many different subject areas. I am an American History buff and have studied government/politics both in college and law school. I was trained in writing and public speaking in law school, and have employed both skills in various capacities since I graduated. I also can teach graduate test prep, including the LSAT.

In my free time, I am a pretty social guy. I play and watch sports. I spend a lot of time with my little nephew. And I like to read.

What is your teaching philosophy?

I am a good listener, which I think is absolutely essential to teaching. People learn in different ways, and so a teacher needs to tailor his/her explanation to the individual student. But to do that, he needs to listen. I think I'm a good combination of being serious and light-hearted. It's important to focus, but I think learning can also be fun too.
