Certified Tutor

I am currently a senior at American University studying Elementary Education with a minor in Special Education. I am currently working with second grade students in my student teaching placement, but I also have experience with students ranging from grades K-5. Helping students learn is my passion.

When tutoring, I first try and understand what the student already knows and what direction they are heading in. From there, I can better help the student achieve their goals. Additionally, every student learns differently. Because of this, I believe it is essential to teach multiple methods to students and let them decide which one works for them.

As a future educator, I get excited to see students learning and thriving. I also enjoy reading, dancing, and crocheting in my free time. I am an energetic, passionate, and determined tutor.

What is your teaching philosophy?

I believe that each student learns differently and should be exposed to multiple methods of problem solving in order for them to determine the best method. While some students learn best through the arts, others learn through logical reasoning and categorizing. It is my job to help each student determine the method that works best for his or her learning style and continue to work with that across multiple subject areas.

What might you do in a typical first session with a student?

In a typical first session with a student, I believe it is essential to determine what the student already knows, what he or she needs to know, and what that student's interests are. This will help me understand the best method for teaching this student, as well as how to engage them in learning.

How can you help a student become an independent learner?

Students can become independent learners by learning several techniques and organizational skills. Additionally, it is important to teach students how to self-motivate and be proud of their accomplishments.
