I have a strong passion for learning and teaching, which has led me to becoming a teacher and tutor. I find great enjoyment in seeing students finally understand a concept, and the joy that overtakes them as it happens. My background as an actor and student of theatre has given me an unique exposure to literature and history outside of the traditional classroom setting. It is with this nontraditional approach that I like to design my lessons so students stay interested in the material.

What is your teaching philosophy?
I feel that a student-centered approach is the key to success. Using multiple methods to see what works for each student is key to helping students understand challenging concepts and grasp the necessary skills to achieve the desired outcomes.
What might you do in a typical first session with a student?
I would like to get to know the student a little and find out what their interests are so I can maybe make the information relevant. I would also like to know what has not been working for the student so we can work with other methods.
How can you help a student become an independent learner?
I like to model the thinking I want the student to do. I will work through an example out loud with the student and have them do the same for me until the student feels comfortable doing it on their own.
How would you help a student stay motivated?
I try to make the information and concepts relevant to the students. If they cannot see how the information will be useful in their lives, then the student will not want to learn.
If a student has difficulty learning a skill or concept, what would you do?
I like to use multiple methods and approaches to tackle difficult concepts. Not everyone learns the same way so we will find what works best.
